Heading to Charlotte

Ed Hardin at the Greensboro News and Record is reporting that Wake will play UConn in the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte according to talks with unidentified sources close to the negotiations. He does say there is a possibility of ending up elsewhere if BC wins on Saturday and a couple other scenarios unfold, but otherwise we’ll be heading to Charlotte.

I can’t say I’m surprised, and although the thought of heading somewhere else was certainly fun to entertain, we have nothing to be ashamed of in going to Charlotte. UConn, although not the sexiest opponent ever, is not a bad football team this year but at the same time it gives us a great opportunity to get a bowl win. Considering Wake’s history this invitation is nothing to be ashamed of. Five years from now no one will car whether we played in the Music City or the Meineke, what will matter is whether or not we won. This bowl gives us a great opportunity to get that bowl win. As much as fans have wanted to go elsewhere, I can’t imagine that our biggest turnout won’t be in Charlotte as it allows many locals to make a trip they wouldn’t otherwise make. Even though fans around the country aren’t that excited about Charlotte, I can’t imagine they won’t come just because it isn’t Nashville or Orlando.

All of this to say, congrats to the team on a great season and a good luck to them in Charlotte. Now we as fans need to buy tickets when they become available AND BUY THEM FROM WAKE’S TICKET OFFICE so that the school gets credit for all the fans that come. These numbers are very important for future bowls when considering who to invite.
