Quick Thoughts: Wake 79, BYU 62
I wasn't able to watch the second half as closely as the first, but watching the Deacs really maintain a lead for this half has been very encouraging. Not only have we continued to put points on the board (although not nearly as many as the first half) but we've played very solid defense to counter the fact that we had less offense.
For the first time all season the Deacs played a full 40 minute basketball game with all the intensity and effort they could muster. If there was one thing I wanted to see tonight it was that, and I was even more impressed by it then I thought I would be. I honestly believe that the Deacs could stay with most anyone in the ACC if they play this hard all game every game.
And hey, Ish Smith even hit two freethrows. What more can Deac fans ask for?
The only thing I can comment negatively on is the number of turnovers. It had been great to only have 9 turnovers in each of the last two games, but tonight's 17 turnover performance wasn't quite as great. Nonetheless, being able to overcome those turnovers as the guys have tonight is awesome.
11-3 heading into conference play is not a record any Deac fans should be complaining about. Deacon nation shouldn't resign themselves to anything this year. A .500 record in conference could very easily land this team in the Tournament. It'll be a tough thing to accomplish, but it isn't impossible. We've got to find a way to win some games on the road, and that will start next weekend with Boston College.
Final score 79-62. Congratulations, Deacs. What a great win.
