Could It Have Been Any Worse?
The answer to that question may very well be no.
I'll have more to say about the implications of this loss, probably tomorrow evening, once I've had the chance to think about it.
For now, I'll let the ugliness of this loss "marinate," if you will. Although Wake didn't give up any more ground in the second half, the 58-80 loss does not in any way indicate Wake played well in the second half. Virginia Tech just didn't need to keep pouring it on.
I don't have the full stats for this game yet, but there's no way Wake shot over 40% in the game, but I don't think the numbers will do the ugliness of this game justice. There seemed to be a lack of effort, lack of desire, and lack of just about anything Wake would have needed to win this game.
So now it's 4 straight losses for a team that looks like it doesn't see anything left to play for. Can they turn that around and try to make something happen in the ACC Tournament? Think on that we'll talk about it tomorrow.
